The accompaniment/shadow offered at the day camp accompanies a/the child(ren) with certain disabilities throughout the entire day of camp, to help integrate and give the child the opportunity to participate in all of the activities.
We would like clarify that our accompaniment/shadow/support service is not a specialized service.
In other words, those responsible for accompanying the children possess 3 hour training offered by the Alter GO for each accompaniment.
The objective of the camp is to successful integrate children, and the number of children assigned to each accompaniment/shadow will be situation dependent based on their specific needs.
It has been outlined on the registration forms and reconfirmed on the detailed form that we ask parents/guardians to specify with detail, to better determine the resources we need to successfully operate.
The individual is between the ages of 16 and 25 years old. Each accompaniment/shadow was recruited and selected by the Loisirs LD centre. Careful consideration and attention is used in the decision making process. Basic training is offered to each accompaniment/shadow regarding the following:
In addition to the day camp management team, a coordinator of the integrated service, as well as accompanying staff will supervise the accompanier. This ensures and stresses the importance of the needs of the children are not only our responsibility, but out priority. If necessary, this person will communicate with parents/guardians and other resources.
After being familiar with the documents completed by the parent, a team member of the day camp will contact them before camp starts, making sure all needs of the child are understood and met. All the information will be shared with the accompaniment/shadow to ensure clear communication.
All day camp activities take place Monday to Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Parents should notify the camp as soon as possible with they will be using daycare services or not, as this information is mandatory to manage the presence of support staff. Without this information, the child could be supervised under the responsibility of a camp counsellor until the accompaniment/shadow arrives.
Only children recommended by the CLSC and supported by the Alter-Go program are
eligible to receive the Loisirs LD accompaniment/shadow services.
